Living with Less

Are you ready for what this season has in store? If we only knew, right? I think most of us agree that it’s better we don’t. Fall brings with it many new and exciting things; only you know what they are for you and your household. Fall is my favorite time of year, and it flies by so fast that I don’t want to be preoccupied with things I should have taken care of earlier in the year. The last few weeks have been a reminder of this as I reflect upon conversations with family, friends, acquaintances, and clients. None of us are immune to sickness, death, sudden moves, divorce, or job loss, among other obstacles that cross our paths. Of course, it’s not always the joy-stealers in life that catch us off-guard, but the mountain top experiences can as well. Regardless of your circumstance, it’s that time of year again when you’ll hear me preach about the importance of getting your house in order.

Summer has come and gone, and I’m guessing there are plenty of us whofall-leaves, living with less have a borderline mess in our garage and other storage areas. Throughout the month of October and November, SYP will offer a 20% discount on garage and storage organizing services. (This includes off-site storage units. GET RID OF THEM!) We will also transport donations such as tents, tarps, cots, coats, headlamps, batteries, and sleeping bags to our mission partner, JOPPA. JOPPA’s mission is to create a community of unconditional love, support, and hope for the homeless – working together to end homelessness in Central Iowa. Did you know 1,000 people are homeless each day in Central Iowa? To learn more about JOPPA and ways you can assist them visit www.joppa.org

Times are changing and people are catching the wave of what it feels like to live with less. The joy of living with less is real and contagious. Once you experience what it’s like to manage less chaos (think of the time we spend scheduling, organizing, cleaning, maintaining, and grooming our stuff) and enjoy the time you’ve just established to create memories that will last forever, you’ll wish you’d done it sooner.

Memories last a lifetime, possessions don’t.
